cingulum
Acronym: cg
The term cingulum (cg) refers to the massive bundle of fibers that originates in nonspecific nuclei of the midbrain [noradrenergic locus ceruleus (LCR) and serotonergic raphe nuclei (classical) (RPHc)], of the basal forebrain (BFB) (cholinergic basal nuclei (BSN)). and of the thalamus (anterior thalamic nucleus (ATN) with the parahippocampal gyrus and adjacent structures of the temporal lobe.
     All connectios entering and exiting the cingulate gyrus pass through the cingulum ( Vogt-2012( Bubb-2018 ). In the human it is composed of the Cingulum ammonale and the Cingulum limitans and is not readily distinguished in myelin-stained cross-sections ( Carpenter-1983 ). In the rat ( Swanson-1998 ) and mouse ( Paxinos-2001 ) it is more distinguishable.
