periamygdalar area
Acronym: PAA
The term periamygdalar area refers to a composite of ?? areas of olfactory cortex in the parahippocampal gyrus overlying the cortical amygdalar nucleus in the human and the macaque ( Carpenter-1983 ). While its subdivisions are the same in the two species, it is more differentiated in the human than in the macaque ( Yilmazer-Hanke-2012 ). Its dorsolateral boundary is with the piriform cortex and its ventromedial boundary is with the entorhinal area. In the human the latter border is marked by the semiannular sulcus ( Mai-1997 ).
