The term lumbar segments refers to the parts of the spinal cord that give rise to nerves entering and leaving the spinal canal at the levels of the lumbar vertebrae. These segments have massive anterior gray column and posterior gray column and are nearly circular in horizontal sections ( Carpenter-1983 ). Defined by dissection, they are found in all vertebrates ( Swanson-2015 ).
