The term area 18 of Brodmann (human) refers to a subdivision of the cytoarchitecturally defined occipital region of cerebral cortex. In the human it is located in parts of the cuneus, the lingual gyrus and the middle occipital gyrus of the occipital lobe. Cytoarchitecturally it is bounded on one side by the primary visual cortex, from which it is distinguished by absence of a stria of Gennari, and on the other by the area 19 of Brodmann (human) ( Brodmann-1909 ).
