area 29 (macaque)
Acronym:
The term area 29 (macaque) refers to an area of cerebral cortex defined on the basis of cytoarchitecture by Nissl stain in the macaque. It is located caudally in the posterior cingulate gyrus and isthmus of the cingulate gyrus, deep in the callosal sulcus where the gyri join the splenium of the corpus callosum. It is less differentiated than the equivalent area in the rodent. It consists of two subdivisions, area 29a-c (macaque) ( area 29l ), laterally and area 29d (macaque) ( area 29m ) medially ( Vogt-1987; Vogt-2012 ).
