The Mouse Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates

Paxinos G, Franklin KBJ
Second Edition, Academic Press, San Diego, 2001

In this atlas the authors have summarized the current knowledge of brain anatomy and supplemented it with their observations of the mouse. To facilitate comparison between the mouse and the rat, they have retained the general methodology and familiar format of the Rat Brain in Stereotaxic Coordinates, 4th ed. (Paxinos and Watson, 1998). 1) It is based on the flat-skull position, with bregma, lambda, and midpoint of the interaural line usable as reference points. 2) The coronal set features 100 photographic plates and 100 matching diagrams delineating the entire brain. 3) The sagittal set features 32 photographic plates and 32 matching diagrams. 4) Photographs of Nissl- acetylcholinesterase (AChE) sections alternate. 5) Thoroughly revised cortical delineations as well as improvements in subcortical areas in light of the publication of 'Chemoarchitectonic Atlas of the Rat Forebrain' (Paxinos et al., 1999) and Chemoarchitectonic Atlas of the Rat Brainstem (Paxinos et al., 1999). 6) Diagrams available on CD ROM constructed by Paul Halasz. (from Preface, p. ix). This atlas was a major source of mouse brain structure names and acronyms in NeuroNames.
